Renunciation of Romanian citizenship (art. 27 of the Romanian Citizenship Law no. 21/1991, rep.)
Our law office offers specialized assistance by scheduling appointments for the submission of the renunciation file; representing the clients in the case of submitting the file; providing assistance with notary and translation offices; obtaining duplicates of civil status documents issued by the Romanian State, throughout the whole territory of Romania; representation before public and local authorities, ANAF and DITL at the last domicile of the petitioner in the country, as well as wherever necessary in order to obtain all the documents required for a complete file; collecting all the certificates issued by the National Authority for Citizenship.
The petitioners are either Romanian citizens who have acquired the citizenship of another state that does not allow dual citizenship (Spain, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Austria, etc.), or Romanian citizens who no longer have close ties with the country or who voluntarily renounce their Romanian citizenship due to excessive bureaucracy,
It is important to note that the loss of Romanian citizenship does NOT affect in any way your right to legal or testamentary inheritance, nor your right of ownership or future acquisition of real estate in Romania.
In order to renounce your Romanian citizenship it is not necessary for you to be present (at the Authority’s headquarters or at the consulate) in order to submit the application. This avoids costly trips to the consulate or to the premises of the Authority. We represent you on the basis of the legal assistance contract and the special power of attorney wherever necessary on the territory of Romania. No matter how complicated you may find the process of renunciation and obtaining the necessary documentation, through our expertise, we assure you that with our specialized help the procedure becomes very simple, the renunciation file can be submitted by us at the seat of the Authority in about 20-30 days from the date of signing the legal assistance contract.
You should also bear in mind the difference in the waiver fee. Thus, if the file is submitted at the seat of the Authority, the fee is 600 lei (approx. 125 euro), and if you choose to submit the file yourself at the consulate, the fee is 600 euro.
The approximate time limit for solving the application is 8 months from the moment of its registration.
You remain a Romanian citizen with full rights, being able to use your Romanian identity documents, until you receive the final attestation stating that, by Order of the President of the Authority, your application to renounce your Romanian citizenship has been approved.
In case you have minor children for whom you wish to apply, the application can be submitted only within the Romanian citizenship renunciation file formulated by one of the parents.
