Reasons for renouncing the Romanian citizenship

Possible reasons for renouncing the Romanian citizenship are:

• you hold the citizenship of another state, you no longer intend to return to Romania and the procedure of changing your civil status documents at the diplomatic missions of Romania abroad and of transcribing the documents is difficult;
• you have obtained or intend to obtain the citizenship of another state that does not allow dual citizenship, which is why you must urgently renounce your Romanian citizenship.

Statistically, for the year 2018, the most applications to renounce Romanian citizenship were submitted in favour of Austrian, Norwegian and Dutch citizenship, with a total of 461 applications for renunciation.
