Romanian citizenship can be granted to persons who have lost their Romanian citizenship for reasons not imputable to them, as well as to their descendants up to the second degree and who apply for regaining it.

This includes former Romanian citizens and their descendants (children and grandchildren) who emigrated during the communist period, including ethnic Jews who emigrated to Israel.

The file is submitted in person by the petitioner to the National Authority for Citizenship by prior appointment or to the Romanian consular mission.

The petitioner’s minor children for whom Romanian citizenship is applied for will be mentioned on the parent’s application, and their presence at the filing of the application with the parent is required, according to the latest regulations.

At the moment, the deadline for solving the application and issuing the Order by the President of the National Authority for Citizenship is about 2 years.
